What does fatherhood mean to you?
For me, fatherhood means having the privilege to lead my child in the right direction, so he can have a strong spiritual and everyday life. Also, being a father has meant re-evaluating my own life to better his.
What is the best part of being a dad?
As soon as I get home from work my son runs as fast as he can to give me a big hug. To feel and see how much he loves me and to be able to give the same type of love in return is such a blessing.
What is your proudest moment as a dad?
I’m still pretty new at being a dad, but if I had to pick one moment it would be seeing my son so eager to pray with my wife and I before dinner and bedtime. It touches my heart.
What do you and your child do for fun?
Right now most of our fun consists of wrestling on the floor, playing with toys, being outside and watching the Wiggles while we sit on the couch before bed.
What is the hardest part about being a dad?
The hardest part would be when I have to discipline him and see the look of disappointment in his eyes. Even though he only stays mad for a short period of time, it still breaks my heart.
What kind of dad do you strive to be?
I strive to lead by example and to let him know its okay to be healthy, to pray, to love, to treat women with respect and to stand up for what you believe in. I figure it will be second-nature for him if he sees his dad living that way.
Describe your funniest moment as a dad.
I can’t narrow it down to one particular moment. My son cracks me up daily and we laugh all the time. I have 365 funny days a year.
What would you hope that your kids would say about you if asked what kind of dad they have?
That he never had to question my love or plans for him. That he was taught to respect and cherish his mother and all women. That I taught him it’s okay to pray and trust and believe in himself.
What is the most important piece of advice you’ve received about fatherhood?
That even though they’re cute they know how to push the right buttons. Just remember everything is a learning opportunity for kids. They are learning how to react by what you do. Just stay calm and remind them that you love them.
What would you consider to be your most inspiring moment as a dad?
There is no one moment. It’s just the thought that everyday I have the opportunity to be a positive influence in my son’s life, to teach him, to provide for him and to be the best dad I can be.
