What does fatherhood mean to you?
Fatherhood means being a teacher, role model and coach. Providing and being there for your child.
What is the best part of being a dad?
Spending time with my daughter. We usually have a good time no matter what we are doing.
What is your proudest moment as a dad?
My daughter was intimidated to play soccer. So we practiced all week. During her next game she made a few good passes and got involved in the game. Then a few weeks later she scored her first goal!
What do you and your child do for fun?
We go on bike rides and play video games. McKennah loves to go to the pool and have me throw her. Tickling her is always fun.
What is the hardest part about being a dad?
Saying no. It’s hard to do because she is cute, but I have to say no and she acts like I broke her heart!
What kind of dad do you strive to be?
I strive to be the kind of dad that is always in my daughter’s life. I want her to come to me when times are good or bad. I hope I am someone she respects and knows she can always turn to.
Describe your funniest moment as a dad.
While changing my daughter’s diaper as a child I experienced the flying poop phenomenon.
What would you hope that your child would say about you if asked what kind of a dad she has?
I hope McKennah would say that I’m a fun dad who teaches her a lot of things. That I treat her fairly and am preparing her well for adulthood. I hope she would say that I am someone she can rely on.
What is the most important piece of advice you’ve received about fatherhood?
Enjoy it. Children grow up fast and it is important to make the most out of every moment.
What would you consider to be your most inspiring moment as a dad?
My daughter’s mother, her parents and I have had a difficult relationship at times. That friction caused McKennah to be apprehensive around me and cry when I came to pick her up. Just from spending more time with her, she stopped crying when I picked her up and would actually start crying when I dropped her off. That’s inspiring for a dad!
