What does fatherhood mean to you?
Fatherhood is an honor. I have a responsibility to raise my kids in the way God has chosen for them.
What is the best part of being a dad?
Sharing the every day moments that become our family memories. I love the activities we do together that have become our traditions.
What is your proudest moment as a dad?
Baptizing each of my children. I’m also proud of the tough moments which provide me with an opportunity to show my children how much I love them.
What do you and your children do for fun?
We love to hike and picnic together at State Parks. We also enjoy taking road trips and camping.
What is the hardest part about being a dad?
It is difficult when my children are struggling and I need to allow them to work through the particular issue. It is also tough to see them act out and not be aware of the consequences of their actions.
What kind of dad do you strive to be?
Consistent and loving. It is normal for my wife and I to participate in each child’s activities – school, sports and church. Be there for your children. It shows them that you love them.
Describe your funniest moment as a dad.
Once, when driving our oldest child, Ashley, and her friends around, I pulled a hat down over my eyes, slumped down at the wheel and talked in a funny voice. Ashley thought I was acting really strange but her friends just thought I was the “cool” dad!
What would you hope that your kids would say about you if asked what kind of dad they have?
I hope that my children would say that I love them, that I’m involved in their lives and that I model my own life based on what I teach them.
What is the most important piece of advice you’ve received about fatherhood?
Believe that God has equipped you to do everything needed to parent. There are times when you may not feel able, but you must choose to believe you are able and act in your children’s best interests.
What would you consider to be your most inspiring moment as a dad?
Lately, the kids have been jealous about how much time they each get to spend with me. It is important to initiate that one-on-one time with them, but it is the best feeling when they seek out that time with you! The absolute best.
