Colorado Department of Human Services, Colorado Works Division Hires Two Specialists for Fatherhood Initiative

The Colorado Department of Human Services, Colorado Works Division has hired two specialists to lead the Colorado Promoting Responsible Fatherhood (PRF) Initiative. Jennifer Morganto will serve as a fatherhood program specialist and Dan Welch as the fatherhood and family specialist for this federally funded Initiative.

In her role as fatherhood program specialist, Ms. Morganto will function as the main point of contact for all Colorado PRF Community Access funded programs and facilitate program audits and site visits. Prior to joining the PRF Initiative, Ms. Morganto oversaw a National Healthy Marriage Grant at Peer Assistance Services in Denver.

As the fatherhood and family specialist for the PRF Initiative, Mr. Welch will serve as the administrator of Colorado’s PRF Community Access Grant. Mr. Welch joins the PRF Initiative after working in Child Support Enforcement for more than 20 years. In that role, he was actively involved in developing the Be a Fan of Your Kid campaign, Partners for Fragile Families grant and the selection of Colorado as a federal PRF Community Access Grant recipient. Mr. Welch was also the winner of the 2008 Be There for Your Kids Colorado Fatherhood Council Member of the Year Award.

In October 2006, the Colorado Department of Human Services, Colorado Works Division was awarded a $10 million federal grant over five years to strengthen father/child relationships and improve parenting. Colorado is one of two locations nationwide, including Washington, D.C., to receive this federal Community Access Grant. The PRF Initiative distributes more than $1.1 million in awards to state, community and faith based organizations to assist in providing direct services to fathers and families each year. Awards of up to $50,000 are distributed per program, per fiscal year.
