What's the best part of being a dad?
The best part is feeling that I’m loved, seeing my children smile, hearing their laughter and holding them in my arms. Also knowing that when the world’s problems close in, my children will come to me for comfort and advice. - Thompson Williams, Father of four

Take 'Em Outside!

You probably wouldn’t be surprised to learn that studies indicate that children are spending half as much time outside as they did 20 years ago. Child advocacy expert Richard Louv directly links the lack of nature in the lives of today's wired generation—he calls it nature-deficit—to some of our most disturbing childhood trends, such as the rises in obesity, attention disorders, and depression. Louv, author of one of the classic books on fathering, Fatherlove: What We Need, What We Seek, What We Must Create (1993), has stimulated an international conversation about the future relationship between children and nature, and has helped spawn a movement that is now moving into the international sphere.  Check out the Children and Nature Network at www.childrenandnature.org.

Support Line for Dads & Moms

Who do you turn to when you need parenting advice? The best place to turn, of course, is to the people who know you and your situation best, family, friends, church members etc. But sometimes that just isn't possible. We live in a time when there are a seemingly unlimited number of books, magazines and websites about parenting but that can be a challenge to sort through because of the overwhelming number of choices and expert opinions. At Coloradodads.com we have found that the Families First Support Line has increasingly become a place that dads can go to connect with the help they need.
